Vandana Pai, Senior Partner at Bharucha & Partners, is a leading figure in India’s M&A and private equity landscape. A Columbia Law School alumna, Vandana has spearheaded some of the country’s most high-value and complex transactions, combining strategic precision with human-centered leadership. Known for her mentorship, inclusive work culture, and forward-thinking approach to ESG and corporate governance, she redefines what it means to lead with both intellect and empathy. Her philosophy—“Live and let live”—echoes in every deal, decision, and dialogue she engages in.

Vandana’s journey spans over two decades of excellence in mergers, acquisitions, and private equity law. Starting her career with Amarchand Mangaldas in the early 2000s, she found herself at the epicenter of India’s booming deal-making era. Guided by industry stalwarts, she developed a deep love for the complexity and adrenaline of negotiations, learning early on that law is as much about people as it is about precision.

Her pursuit of global excellence led her to Columbia Law School, where she immersed herself in a diverse community of legal thinkers from over 60 countries. That experience expanded her global perspective and helped her build lifelong professional relationships across jurisdictions.

From advising global funds on India entry and exit strategies to navigating the intricate dynamics of international transactions, Vandana has built her career on balance—between risk and opportunity, logic and empathy, business outcomes and ethical integrity. As an Independent Director and mentor for women in law, she champions inclusivity and flexibility in leadership, believing that empowerment begins with trust and genuine opportunity.

Today, as a Partner at Bharucha & Partners, she leads with composure, collaboration, and conscience—setting benchmarks for the next generation of M&A lawyers.

  • Her advice to aspiring women lawyers: “Understand business, stay curious about tech, and never second-guess your potential. If you want to be an M&A lawyer, you will be one.”
  • Personally, Vandana shared her love for dogs, French cuisine, and classical music, revealing that weekends are for her daughter and her three furry companions.
  • Her favorite book is “The Kite Runner,” and her mantra for 2025 is to continue growing her firm’s investment funds practice while nurturing balance in her personal life.
