Abeer Nabi Odho represents the new generation of international tax professionals who combine legal knowledge, accounting expertise, analytical thinking, and cross-border understanding. As a Tax Associate at The Walton Firm, her professional journey spans US tax compliance, due diligence, criminal investigation defense, cross-border practice, and international regulatory frameworks. Her unique combination of an accounting background and legal education has enabled her to approach tax matters with both numerical precision and legal reasoning.

In this episode of The Koffee Conversation Show – The Emerging Lawyer Series, themed “Tax Law, AI & Cross-Border Practice | A Conversation with Abeer Nabi Odho,” Abeer shares valuable insights on international taxation, US tax compliance, due diligence, criminal investigation defense, AI, technology, cross-border legal practice, continuous learning, integrity, and building an international career. Her perspective highlights a critical truth—modern legal professionals must think beyond jurisdictions, continuously upgrade their skills, and combine technology with human judgment and ethical responsibility.

Abeer’s journey into law was inspired by a deeply personal moment. After completing her ACC certification in 2011, she initially followed what was considered a more secure professional path in Pakistan. When her sister entered law school, however, seeing her in a law gown sparked something within Abeer that she could not ignore. With the encouragement of her father, she decided to pursue law despite having already completed her accounting qualification. Her accounting background naturally led her toward tax law, where she could combine both areas of expertise.

Her professional journey subsequently expanded across jurisdictions, eventually leading her to focus on US taxation. Today, her work involves helping firms maintain accurate compliance documentation, identify inconsistencies, conduct due diligence, and support criminal investigation defense. One of her most challenging assignments involved defending the family of a deceased taxpayer facing a significant tax demand, teaching her that tax practice is not simply about numbers—it also requires empathy, communication, and the ability to support clients during extremely difficult personal circumstances.
