Dr. Milind Antani represents a rare combination of medical expertise, legal knowledge, healthcare policy, and strategic leadership. As a Partner at Nishith Desai Associates, he leads the Pharma, Life Sciences & Healthcare Practice and the Social Sector Practice, advising leading healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical technology, and digital health organizations. A qualified ENT surgeon who spent 14 years treating patients, he made an extraordinary transition into law, bringing together the perspectives of a doctor and a lawyer. His professional journey also extends into policy, education, life coaching, training, social impact, and thought leadership.

In this episode of The Koffee Conversation Show – The Emerging Lawyer Series, themed “Beyond Medicine: Leading the Future of Healthcare Law,” Dr. Milind shares powerful insights on healthcare law, health-tech, AI, medical innovation, data privacy, healthcare regulation, policy, social impact, LegalTech, leadership, mentorship, and the human side of professional success. His perspective highlights a critical truth—healthcare innovation must balance accessibility, affordability, safety, patient trust, and responsible technology.

Dr. Milind’s career transition is anything but conventional. While working as an ENT surgeon in Anand, Gujarat, he received an unexpected call from Nishith Desai, who believed that someone with medical expertise could bring unique value to healthcare law. Initially dismissing the idea, Milind eventually decided to take the opportunity. He began travelling between Anand and Mumbai, studied law while continuing his medical practice, and eventually transitioned into full-time legal practice. For six months, he operated on patients over weekends while working as a lawyer during the week—a remarkable example of commitment, adaptability, and reinvention.

His medical background became a powerful competitive advantage in healthcare and life sciences law because he could understand the language of doctors, hospitals, pharma companies, and healthcare businesses. Over the years, his work expanded into health-tech, medical devices, AI in healthcare, healthcare investments, policy, data privacy, and social-sector initiatives. His philosophy is rooted in domain knowledge, empathy, continuous learning, and the belief that technology should be a companion and enabler—not a replacement for human thought and judgment.
