Sumit Mangal is a Tax Partner at AZB & Partners, with over 16+ years of experience spanning cross-border taxation, international treaties, transfer pricing, and high-stakes corporate tax litigation. A rare professional with a dual background as both a Chartered Accountant and a Lawyer, Sumit brings together the precision of numbers and the persuasion of law to solve some of the most complex financial and regulatory challenges faced by multinational corporations
Known for his calm authority, strategic clarity, and deep industry understanding, Sumit has represented global clients before tax authorities, High Courts, and the Supreme Court of India, and has played a key role in shaping litigation strategy in some of India’s largest tax disputes. His journey reflects discipline, intellectual depth, and quiet mastery in a field where precision truly defines power.

Coming from a business family, Sumit was initially expected to take over the family enterprise. However, his natural inclination toward numbers, finance, and problem-solving led him down a different path. Excelling in mathematics from a young age, he chose to pursue Chartered Accountancy, becoming the first CA in his extended family — and later further distinguished himself by also qualifying as a lawyer .
He completed his B.Com (Honours) from Delhi University’s North Campus while simultaneously pursuing CA — a rigorous phase that shaped his ability to multitask, manage pressure, and balance discipline with ambition.
Sumit spent nearly 14–15 years at Luthra & Luthra, where he built one of the most respected tax litigation practices in the country. His time there shaped his leadership philosophy, independence in handling high-stakes matters, and people-first team culture. When he later moved to AZB & Partners, his entire team and key clients moved with him, a strong testament to the trust he built as a leader.
